What are common ingredient substitutions?

All pantries are different. Our ingredients, preferences, and tastes aren’t the same either. The ingredients I list match my taste buds, but substitutions are warmly welcomed!! Whatever helps you bring this to life, in your kitchen, is also encouraged. Below are some common substitutions, for your convenience:

  • Coconut sugar = Brown sugar

  • EVOO = Butter = Ghee = Coconut oil (melted)*

  • Ground beef = Ground chicken = Ground turkey*

  • Maple syrup = Honey = Agave nectar

  • Nut mylk = Any dairy or non-dairy milk

  • Pecans = Walnuts**

  • Unsalted nut butters = Unsalted seed butters

  • Vanilla extract = Almond extract (can also be omitted)

  • 1 Large egg = 1 Flax egg

    • Flax egg = 1 tbsp. flax seeds + 3 tbsp. warm water and let sit in the fridge for about 5 minutes, or until a gelatinous consistency is reached.

*May affect the taste, but will keep the same consistencies and textures.

**Check notes in individual recipes to see if other nuts and seeds are interchangeable. Some may affect overall taste and texture.
